Bromley 5-1 Ebbsfleet United

Bromley ended their season with a stylish second half demolition of local rivals Ebbsfleet Utd at a blustery Hayes Lane on Saturday afternoon.

A win that saw them finish their National League season in twelfth place with 60points from their 46 matches played, an impressive achievement for manager Neil Smith and his side.

The Ravens started the game on the attack with Jordan Higgs hitting the post and Frankie Sutherland firing narrowly wide. Their breakthrough finally came on 20 minutes when Sam Wood broke down the left and crossed for Supporters Player of the Season George Porter who met the ball in his stride and drove it low and hard past Jonathan Miles.

Fleet rallied from there with Danny Kedwell leading the line and he set up Sam Magri whose goal bound effort was blocked by Jack Holland. Kedwell himself was just off target soon after, but Fleet’s spell of pressure came to nothing in the end.

The second half saw Bromley come out looking to attack again, Higgs had a shot saved by Miles, before The Ravens made it 2-0 when JJ Hooper set up Frankie Sutherland who was brought down for a penalty. The Irishman stepped up and dispatched the spot kick low into the left hand corner, his eleventh of the season.

Ebbsfleet tried to respond again when Bagasan Graham crossed for Kedwell but he was denied by a superb diving tackle from Wood on the six yard box. From there Bromley were soon three up as Luke Coulson hit a shot that deflected off Hooper and landed in front of Richard Brindley who drove the ball home from the edge of the box.

Kedwell had to switch to centre back as Gary Hill tried to reshuffle his team and they briefly came back into things when Andy Drury scored from 20yards out with a well struck low effort, but within two minutes it was 4-1 as Coulson set up Hooper to side foot the ball home from ten yards out.

Bromley started to play some really nice stuff keeping the ball on the pitch and coping better with the swirling wind, Coulson had and effort saved following a slick passing move and Raymond was just off target, while at the other end David Gregory made a fine one handed save from Michael Cheek.

Brindley brought another save out of Miles before Zavon Hines came on in his farewell performance giving Bromley fans a cameo of the player they could have had, but for his injury problems.

The former West Ham Utd midfielder signed off by setting up Coulson with a perfectly weighted pass to score against his old side, coolly taking ball ball round Miles and slotting it home in injury time to complete the scoring.
