Despite a late scare, injury hit Bromley picked up a valuable three points in the National League at home to Weymouth on Tuesday night, with a gritty display of character and good finishing.
The Ravens started on the front foot, but Weymouth then settled into things with Andreas Robinson forcing a save from Mark Cousins. Michael Cheek went close for Bromley as the game flowed from end to end, but it was the visitors who took the lead on 22 minutes when Josh Leslie-Smith crossed for Josh Wakefield to side foot his volleyed effort home from close range.
From there Bromley came back with a positive response, Taylor Maloney had an effort saved by Jack Bycroft and Harry Forster fired over. Then with ten minutes left in the half The Ravens were awarded a penalty when Josh McQuoid shoved Cheek in the box as the striker was played in by Liam Trotter.
Cheek dusted himself off and dispatched the spot kick to equalise.
Weymouth had the better of the final few minutes when Robinson went one with a free kick and then another set piece from Sean Shields was only half cleared before Leslie-Smith headed a great chance wide.
The second half saw Bromley come out flying and only two minutes in Forster broke down the right and held off the challenge of Tom Whelan to cross for Nassim L’Ghoul who converted his chance from six yards out to make it 2-1 to The Ravens.
With Neil Smith’s side now in the ascendency Chris Bush had a powerful free kick saved by Bycroft and Harry Kyprianou had a good chance saved after good work by Luke Coulson on the break.
The third goal finally came on 68 minutes when a long ball up field found Ben Williamson on the edge of the box and he hit a superb effort past Bycroft into the corner of the net for 3-1.
Reeco Hackett-Fairchild had a driven effort well saved by Bycroft, but it was the visitors who then took initiative for the final ten minutes.
Cody Cooke volleyed a Cameron Murray cross just wide, before as they pressed for a way back Coulson pushed Cooke in the box as they challenged for a header and referee Mr Tallis awarded Weymouth a penalty.
Tom Whelan smashed home the spot kick to make it 3-2 and set up a frantic finish. It was all Weymouth from there, McQuoid had a header saved by Cousins and Ollie Hatfield saw his shot deflected wide as the Terras Pressed, but Bromley held out under pressure and did enough to secure all three points.
The Ravens are now eleventh in the table and entertain Eastleigh at home this Saturday, looking to build on this hard fought victory.
