On an afternoon when the fans remembered Dave Roberts with a minute’s applause prior to the match, Bromley got back to winning ways at a chilly Hayes Lane on Saturday when they overcame ten man Wealdstone with a last minute goal.
The game got off to an open start, with the visitors looking the most positive and after Jayden Sweeney had fired just wide, The Stones took the lead on 8 minutes. Harry Forster lost possession of the ball to Jamie Mascoll on the edge of the area and he then took the ball wide before sending in a low cross for Josh Umerah at the front post who flicked the ball into the far corner of the net with the Bromley defence looking static.
After going behind Bromley rallied, a long throw from Chris Bush was headed towards goal by Omar Sowunmi, but Stones keeper George Wickens made a great save.
Wealdstone almost made it two soon after when Bush scuffed a clearance against his own bar from a corner, but The Ravens then got the ball clear.
Bromley carried on pushing forward with Sowunmi again denied by Wickens, before they eventually equalised on 26 minutes when a deep free kick was knocked down by Marcus Sablier into the path of George Alexander who crashed the ball home from ten yards out.
Four minutes later Bromley went in front when Sablier picked the ball up in midfield and after a strong run he unleashed an unstoppable drive from 30 yards out which crashed into the back of the net for 2-1.
The Ravens almost made it three when Billy Bingham and Luke Coulson combined to set up Michael Cheek, but Wickens again made a fantastic save.
The second half saw Wealdstone start on top, Ira Jackson had an effort saved by Mark Cousins, while Bromley went close when Byron Webster had a header saved from a corner.
Alexander then had a goal ruled out for offside before the visitors were reduced to ten men. Bingham fired wide from range and in the aftermath Wickens pushed Alexander to the floor and was shown a red card by Referee Gary Parsons.
Sub keeper Alfie Marigliani came on for Jackson and was soon called into action when he saved a driven effort from Bush. Bromley seemed to lose momentum for a while midway through the half and Wealdstone pulled level on 71 minutes when a deep free kick from Charlie Cooper found Jack Cook unmarked at the far post whose diving header beat Cousins for 2-2.
Bromley pushed again from there, Sowunmi and Bingham had shots saved by Marigliani and Jude Arthurs fired over, before Alexander had another goal rules out for offside.
Late on Sowunmi was pushed up front and Bromley pressed again with a series of set pieces, eventually finding the breakthrough on 90 minutes.
Another long throw into the box from Bush eventually came out to Webster who headed home in a crowded six yard box to put Andy Woodman’s side back in front. Bromley saw the final minutes of injury time out by running the ball into the corners and they held on for the three points.
Although not a classic the win takes Bromley up to third in the table ahead of their trip to Altrincham next weekend.
