Bromley 3-2 Boreham Wood
Bromley 3-2 Boreham Wood

Bromley kept their chances of making the National League promotion play offs alive with a come from behind win against fifth placed Boreham Wood at a sunny Hayes Lane on Saturday afternoon.

Just as they did on Tuesday night Bromley started slowly and found themselves one down after only 2 minutes when Morgan Ferrier headed home a set piece with the home defence flat footed.

Wood were on top for long spells of the half and Bromley struggled to get going, Bruno Andrade missing a good chance, firing over after good work by Kane Smith and Angelo Balanta firing wide.

The second Boreham Wood goal came on 25minutes when Andrade held of Tyron Sterling to cross for Ferrier to record his second of the game from close range, past the stunned home defence.

For the first half an hour the only chance Bromley had was one wayward Frankie Raymond free kick, but Neil Smith then brought on Brandon Hanlan and changed the momentum of the game.

The on-loan Charlton striker almost made an immediate impact when he headed just wide from a Raymond corner, but The Ravens were soon back into things when another Raymond dead ball was volleyed home by Jordan Higgs at the back post to make it 1-2.

Hanlan went close soon after following a strong run and shot while Wood went close when Andrade chipped David Gregory, but the ball bounced narrowly wide.

The second half saw Wood start on top again, Kieran Murtagh had a header saved by Gregory and they pushed Bromley back for a spell. The Ravens then rallied again with Jack Holland heading a corner wide and Roger Johnson having one saved by Grant Smith.

Neil Smith’s men drew level on 55minutes when Omar Bugeil crossed for Higgs who was fouled by Ricky Shakes in the box and Referee Hull awarded a penalty. Hanlan stepped up to take the spot kick and there was no repeat of Tuesday night’s miss as he sent Smith the wrong way for 2-2.

Bugeil set up Hanlan soon after, but the striker failed to get enough of a touch on the knock down and Raymond had a header saved. Smith put on Adam Mekki for more attacking threat and then also Louis Dennis, knowing only a win would do for The Ravens.

This opened the game up and offered Boreham Wood plenty of space, Gregory saving from Murtagh and Ferrier, before Dennis was just off target with a 20 yard curler that skimmed the bar. Wood pressed for a while, Gregory saving from Andrade and Balanta had a shot cleared off the line by Sterling.

Then after a good spell of pressure Bromley pushed every one up in injury time for a free kick and after a fiercely contested goal mouth scramble Bugeil coolly slotted home the loose ball from six yards to send the home crowd wild.

The final play of the game saw Wood captain Mark Ricketts fire over from a corner and The Ravens held on for the vital three points.

Bromley now face Barrow at home on Tuesday night looking for a win that will keep their play off chances alive and in their own hands.
