Bromley picked up their second 3-0 home win in a row with a comfortable victory over Oldham Athletic at Hayes Lane on Saturday afternoon.
Andy Woodman was forced to make three changes to the starting line up for the game with Tom Smith, George Alexander and Jude Arthurs coming in for the injured Reice Charles-Cook, AdamMarriot and Harry Forster, keeping the same 3-5-2 formation.
Oldham playing their first game under new manager David Unsworth started the game on top, but as things went on Bromley began to settle and start to pose a threat especially down the left through Reece Hannam.
Hannam put in a superb cross for Michael Cheek whose header was tipped over by Magnus Norman in the visitors’ goal. From the resulting corner a scramble in the area was eventually cleared, but not before the goal was displaced and had to be put back in place before the re-start, the same thing also happening at the other end earlier on at a corner.
Byron Webster went close from a free kick and another dangerous set piece from James Vennings just evaded everyone and skidded wide of the far post.
Oldham briefly had a good spell of pressure again when Luke Burgess drove a chance wide, but from there The Ravens responded and went in front on 33 minutes when a throw in routine from the right fell to Omar Sowunmi and the centre back smashed the ball home from 12 yards out for 1-0, his third goal in three games.
Bromley continued to push from there and they doubled their lead on 39 minutes when a superb passing move came out to Hannam on the left and he drove the ball powerfully towards goal cannoning into the roof of the net off the head of an Oldham defender on the line.
The second half saw the game get off to an open start, neither side really creating a chance until the hour mark when a Bromley corner from the left missed everyone in the six yard box until it struck Oldham sub Mike Fondop on the chest and bounced into his own net to pit The Ravens 3-0 up.
Corey Whitely went close soon after as did Bily BIngham before he went off and Oldham started to come into the game. Charlie Wellens went close when he hit a powerful shot that was well saved by debutant keeper Tom Smith in the home goal.
Jack Stobbs also forced a save from Smith cutting in from the left as Athletic pressed and Junior Luamba drove over from 25 yards out. Stobbs was Oldham’s main threat, but too often his team mates failed to connect to his crosses from the left.
In injury time a long ball from Hannam set up Jude Arthurs, but the young wing back clipped his chance past Norman, but wide of the goal. Ben Tollitt forced another save from Smith, which he palmed away for a corner and Charle Cooper shot wide, but Oldham couldn’t find a goal for their efforts in the final quarter and Bromley saw the game out for an impressive three goal victory and another clean sheet.
Andy Woodman’s Ravens now sit in fifth place they prepare for a trip to Solihull Moors on Saturday hoping to keep the run going.
