In front of a very good crowd Bromley moved back into the play off spots with a stylish performance and well earned win over Halifax at Hayes Lane on Saturday thanks to three goals in nine minutes just after half time.
The Ravens started the game brightly with Omar Bugeil and Luke Wanadio combining well down the right to create early chances. Adam Mekki Set up Louis Dennis who put his effort wide and the same duo combined soon after when Dennis saw his header brilliantly clawed away from under the bar by the visitors’ keeper Sam Johnson.
As Bromley continued to press Halifax captain Matty Brown was yellow carded for a very crude foul on Bugeil out wide, which left the Lebanese striker needing lengthy treatment. Wanadio and Bugeil both went close before The Shayman began to rally and come into the game a little more. Danny Clarke fired over, Michael Duckworth forced a save from David Gregory and Michael Collins shot wide.
Gregory had to be on hand again soon after to save a Duckworth free kick, before The Ravens created the last chance of the half when Luke Woolfenden and Wanadio combined to set up Josh Rees who sent his effort high over the bar.
The second half saw Bromley come out flying, Mekki had an early attempt saved by Johnson and put another shot just wide, before the breakthrough came on 49minutes. Mekki sent in a dangerous free kick from the left which Dennis headed powerfully against the underside of the bar and own into the net for 1-0 to the home side.
Five minutes later it was 2-0 when a corner fell to Dennis who had his shot saved by Johnson, but Rees was on hand to convert the rebound from close range. The third goal came only four minutes later when Mekki played in Wanadio who forced a save from Johnson, but that man Rees was there again to drive home the loose ball over the line.
The ball bounced straight back out off the stantion, but the officials spotted that the ball had crossed the line. Neil Smith’s side continued to press with Bugeil and Dennis having efforts saved by Johnson and a goal mouth scramble from a corner saw Ben Chorley have a goal bound shot hacked away to safety.
Wanadio had no luck in front of goal all afternoon seeing a further four shots saved by Johnson, with the Halifax keeper also keeping out Dennis again who also was narrowly off target with a free kick late on.
In the final few minutes The Shaymen rallied and had a spell of pressure around the Bromley box, but they could find no way through the well drilled home defence.
The Ravens now travel up to Cumbria to face Workington next Saturday in the last sixteen of the FA Trophy, while sitting just six points of the leaders in the league.
