Bromley 2-2 Chesterfield

Bromley picked up another important point in their debut League Two season with hard fought draw at home to Chesterfield on Tuesday night at a damp Hayes Lane.

Going into the game Andy Woodman made one change to his starting line up, brining in Olufla Olomola to start up front with Michael Cheek and switching to a 5-3-2 formation.

Chesterfield made a positive start to the game with Jacobs firing wide early on, but it was Bromley who broke the deadlock on 13 minutes when Danny Imray broke down the right and sent in a superb cross for Olomola to powerfully head home for his first EFL goal.

Omar Sowunmi went close soon after, but the lead only lasted five minutes, as a dangerous cross from the right by Naylor caught out the home defence and was converted by Grigg at close range to make it 1-1.

As the game opened up, Colclough then had a shot deflected over, before Boot in the visitor’s goal was involved in two incidents, the first when he was caught in possession by Cheek, but Dunkley saved his blushes with a block to deby Corey Whitely.

Boot then slipped as Imray raced down the right, but the keeper got up just in time to get a foot to the wing back’s low cross.

At the other end, Grant Smith wasn’t quite so lucky when a long ball upfied by Oldaker caught Smith out of his box and as he tried to shepherd it into the area to pick the ball up, Grigg pounced nicking the ball away and then walking it into the net to make it 2-1 to The Spirerites.

Bromley tried to battle back from there and had the better of the final few minute so of the half, but they went in behind.

The second half saw Chesterfield start brightly again with Jacobs setting up Campbell, but he fired over.

Five minutes in though, Bromley drew level, an Ashley Charles free kick found Sowunmi in the box and after his shot struck the inside of the post, Cheek was on hand to turn the rebound home for 2-2, his sixth of the season.

Imray then forced a save from Boot at the near post and Cheek fired over from the edge of the area before the game slowed down for a spell.

Late on Chesterfield had a good spell of pressure, Dobra had a shot saved by Smith and the Bromley keeper then denied Berry. While at the other end Callum Reynolds volleyed over from a corner and The Ravens had a penalty shout turned down when Imray went down under Gordon’s challenge as he broke into the area from the right wing.

In the end, the points were shared, which was probably about fair over the whole match.

The point sees Bromley slip one place to nineteenth ahead of their trip to Fleetwood Town on Saturday lunchtime.
