In a hard fought entertaining encounter Bromley shared the points with Boreham Wood at a chilly Hayes Lane on Saturday afternoon, coming back from one down to go in front only to concede an equaliser late on.
The game got off to an open start, but it was the visitors who created the better chances with Tyrone Marsh going close with a free kick before he then latched on to a great ball from Erico Sousa only to fire over from a good position.
With Boreham Wood winning the physical battle, Angelo Balanta curled a shot just over and Marsh then hit the bar.
The visitors’ pressure paid off on 27 minutes when Sousa’s corner was powerfully headed home by Billy Sass-Davies at the far post to put them one up. The lead barely lasted a minute though, Corey Whitely picking the ball up in midfield and unleashing an unstoppable drive from 25 yards that sailed past Nathan Ashmore and crashed into the net to make it 1-1.
With Bromley now awakened, Whitely then had a header saved and Michael Cheek headed over from an Olufela Olomola cross. Marsh had two good chances for Wood, hitting the side netting and then forcing a save from Grant Smith, but the home side looked the more dangerous.
Late in the half Bromley had three good chances to go in front, Olomola fired wide, Cheek had a header saved before Olomola & Cheek combined only for Ashmore to save and Chris Bush to clear the danger. In first half injury time Whitely and Olomola then set up Cheek, but The Ravens top scorer headed wide.
The second half saw Boreham Wood start with Sass-Davies heading over from a set piece, but Bromley then had a strong spell of pressure.
Alex Kirk raced down to the right to play in Josh Passley who fired shot shot across goal, Jude Arthurs set up Ben Krauhaus who shot wide and Cheek then shot over.
With The Ravens pressing they eventually took the lead on the hour mark when with the visitors appealing for offside after a set piece, Callum Reynolds converted at the near post to make it 2-1 to Andy Woodman’s team.
Lee Ndlovu had a shot saved by Smith on a rare break for Wood, but Bromley continued to press. Olomola and Krauhus set up Cheek who shot over before Cheek then had a goal ruled out for handball when he charged down a clearance and slid the ball past Ashmore only to be denied by the Referee.
From that incident Boreham Wood appeared to get inspiration for one final rally and Bromley began to sit back and look to hold on, but as they sat deeper and deeper in the final ten minutes they came under sustained pressure from Luke Garrad’s team.
The Ravens resistance eventually being broken on 88 minutes when Sousa crossed from the right to find Kwesi Appiah at the far post who looped his header over Smith and high into the far corner of the net for 2-2.
In a frantic & ragged five minutes of added on time, neither side created any real chances and the game ended all square, which was probably about fair over the piece.
Bromley still remain second in the National League and they travel to AFC Fylde next Saturday hoping to get back to winning ways.
