All of the goals came in the second half in a pulsating Sky Bet League Two derby between Bromley and Gillingham.
Both teams came into the game with bragging rights at stake but neither Bromley manager Andy Woodman, or Mark Bonner, his Gills counterpart wanted anything other than three points.
Michael Cheek had the first chance of the match when set up by Ben Thompson but the Ravens’ talisman’s powerful drive was turned round the post by Jake Turner. Corey Whitely then tried to put Cheek through but it bounced off his leg and bounced wide.
Jack Nolan created the visitors’ first opportunity when finding Jayden Clarke and he cut in from the left only to fire well over then Nolan had a shot deflected past the post.
Jude Arthurs made a good challenge when Robbie McKenzie went on a good powerful run and shaped to shoot before a Nolan delivery was headed wide of the near post by Marcus Wyllie.
Omar Showunmi made an outstanding challenge to thwart Elliott Nevitt before the Ravens finished the half strongly. They failed to make the most of a free kick and Thompson blasted well over however, they came much closer in the last minute of the first half. Cameron Congreve sent Carl Jenkinson through and his fierce shot was kept out by the face of Turner.
Although the Gills’ goalkeeper was able to finish the half, he was replaced at the break by substitute goalkeeper Glenn Morris. However, he was not the first goalkeeper to be called into action in the second period. Grant Smith made a superb reaction save from Clarke.
In the ninth minute of the second period, Bromley went ahead. Whitely played it inside and a Gills defender tried to intercept it but poked it into the path of Swansea City loanee Congreve, and he made no mistake from close range.
Two minutes later, parity was restored. Nevitt threaded it through to McKenzie and he arrowed it low across goal and inside the far post.
Just under twenty minutes remained when Bromley went back ahead. Kamari Grant had a shot blocked by Max Ehmer and it fell kindly for Arthurs whose crisp shot gave Morris no chance.
As the clock ticked towards the end, Gillingham’s Shadrach Ogie went on a great run but having got into the penalty area he went for an optimistic shot and sliced it into the crowd. Jacob Wakeling had one last chance of saving a point when getting on the end of a deep cross by Remeao Hutton however, he could only nod it wide of the post.
Victory for the Ravens moved them three places up the league, three points behind the Gills in mid-table.
