Bromley 2-1 Dorking Wanderers
Bromley 2-1 Dorking Wanderers

Bromley dramatically picked up all three points with a spectacular 96th minute winning goal from Corey Whitely against Dorking Wanderers at Hayes Lane on Tuesday night.

Andy Woodman made two changes to the starting eleven with Lewis Leigh and Chin Okoli coming in for Sam Woods and Alex Kirk, keeping the usual 5-3-2 formation.

The game got off to a lively start with play flowing from end to end, but it was the visitors who took the early advantage when Josh Passley lost possession of the ball to Thomas Blair and he ran clear before slotting the ball under Grant Smith to put Dorking in front.

The Wanderers kept the ball for long spells, with Bromley trying to pressure them and the home side drew level on 15 minutes when Leigh’s shot deflected for a corner and the Preston loanee then sent in a perfect ball for Deji Elerewe to powerfully head home the equaliser from six yards out.

Olufella Olomola went close soon after, before Dorking had a good spell with Harry Ottaway having a shot deflected over.

Bromley then took the initiative after the half hour mark with Leigh having a free kick go narrowly over, Michael Cheek seeing a shot saved by Harrison Male, Leigh going close with another dead ball from out wide and Whitely also testing Male in the visitors’ goal. Going into the break Dorking pressed for a spell, but there was no way through for either side.

The second half got off to an open start again, but Dorking had the better chances, Luke Moore fired over for The Wanderers and Matthew Briggs had a shot saved by Smith.

Louis Dennis came on at the hour mark and soon set up Whitely whose shot was saved by Male. Dorking then had another long spell of pressure, with The Ravens looking to catch them on the break.

On one quick break Ben Krauhuas set up Sam Woods who was caught in two minds and hit a cross shot tamely wide before Krauhaus forced another save from Male on the next foray. Going into the latter stages Bromley rallied and started to put Dorking under more pressure, Elerewe had an effort saved after a scramble in the area following a set piece and after a Dorking attack had broken down The Ravens launched one more assault on the Wanderers box, which saw the ball punched out by Male and fall to Whitely 25 yards out, who controlled it before crashing the ball in to the net just under the bar to win the game with seconds left in added time.

The result was harsh on Dorking who gave everything and deserved a point, but Bromley found a way to win again and move up to third in the National League ahead of their trip to Woking on Saturday.
