Bromley’s remarkable recent run continued with a comfortable win over third place Wrexham thanks to two first half goals and some accomplished defending at Hayes Lane on Tuesday night.
After a quiet start Bromley had the first chance when a Frankie Sutherland corner found Frankie Raymond whose shot was well saved by Rob Lainton. Wrexham responded with a Bobby Grant driven effort that hit the bar.
As usual this season The Ravens posed a threat from set pieces, Raymond firing over from a half cleared corner, but they made their pressure count on 20 minutes when Raymond’s deep corner was met by Marc-Anthony Okoye who powerfully headed home at the back post for 1-0.
Sutherland fired over after a good passing move and Jack Holland had a chance cleared following an Adam Mekki shot into the six yard box.
As the half neared the end there were a few heavy challenges, but Bromley kept going and went 2-0 on 43 minutes when Mekki set up Porter who caught the ball on the volley to beat a wrong footed Lainton.
The second half saw The Ravens keep The Red Dragons at bay for long spells, Luke Young put one effort over the bar and David Gregory made a superb one handed save just under the bar from a Bobby Grant header before recovering in time to save the rebound.
Bromley finished the game stronger with Wrexham failing to play with any urgency, subs Omar Bugeil and Zavon Hines looking lively and showing some great touches.
Okoye & Holland had headers saved from Raymond free kicks before one final chance fell to Bugeil who linked up well with JJ Hooper before firing over the target when well placed.
The win takes Bromley up to eleventh in the National League table ahead of their free weekend, an incredible turnaround from Neil Smith’s side over the last month.
