Bromley continued their recent impressive run of form with a comfortable win over third placed Woking at a blustery Hayes Lane on Saturday afternoon thanks to two identical goals just before half time.
The game began with both sides struggling to control the ball in the windy conditions, Jason Banton put a chance over for the visitors before Bromley settled and had a good spell off pressure. Luke Wanadio, who was excellent down the wings all game, had a shot saved by Nathan Baxter and Josh Rees headed a Frankie Raymond cross just wide.
The game slowed though as the half progressed and the only chance of note going towards the break was a Jamie Philpot shot that Bromley keeper David Gregory comfortably saved. Then with three minutes to go an Adam Mekki free kick from the left was headed towards goal by Jack Holland and it somehow crept past Baxter and into the far corner to put the Ravens in front.
Two minutes later Mekki hit another free kick from a similar position, which this time Rees headed past Baxter low into the other corner as the Woking defence stood motionless, doubling Bromley’s lead just before the whistle.
The second half started with the visitors going down to ten men almost immediately when Kane Ferdinand was somewhat surprisingly sent off for a heavy challenge on Rees in the centre circle.
Once recovered Rees then had a header saved from a Wanadio cross, before Woking started to have a good spell of play which saw a few very wayward efforts and one shot from Chez Isaac hit just wide. Bromley also went down to ten men on 70minutes when Roger Johnson limped off with Neil Smith having already made three substitutions, the Woking bench furiously protesting at the time it took the experienced centre back to leave the field.
As The Cards pressed to get back in the game Gregory made a superb one handed save from a curling Joe Ward effort and the young Bromley custodian did brilliantly in handing several dangerous crosses into the box from Ward as the half went on.
Although Bromley offered very little going forward in the second period they saw the game out pretty comfortably and secured a creditable win over higher placed opposition.
Bromley stay sixth in the table and face Maidenhead Utd at Hayes Lane on Tuesday night as they look to continue their impressive start to their third National league season.
