Bromley defeated their North Kent rivals, Welling United, as the two clubs continued their preparations for the new season.

Ross Lafayette and Alex Dyer had early opportunities for Welling but the hosts went ahead when Ashley Nicholls took advantage of hesitant defending and shot low past Lee Butcher.

Jake Gallagher shot wide for Welling but they were indebted to two important interventions from Doug Bergqvist to avoid going further behind as Jay May twice threatened.

Nicholls fired over before Welling had the last chance of the first period. Jack Obersteller put Joe Healy away and his cross was brought down by Clarke before his bicycle kick volley flew into the mid-drift of goalkeeper Max Huxter.

Substitutions punctuated the second half however Steven Smith for Bromley and Welling’s Loick Pires both came close.

Lafayette had another chance for Welling before the visitors had an even better chance when awarded a penalty. The outstanding Loui Fazakerley burst into the penalty area before being upended by Joe Anderson.

Healy struck his spot kick well enough but Huxter was equal to it and pulled off a tremendous save.

Blaine Hudson then fouled Pierre Joseph-Dubois and Bromley were awarded a penalty of their own. Danny Waldren stepped up and converted clinically despite Lee Butcher going the right way.

Elliott Buchanan created two openings for Shamir Mullings but Welling finished the match strongly.

Malik Ouani’s corners caused problems Hafeez Sansui, Gallagher and Bergqvist all came close.
