Bromley came out of this local derby with the three points thanks to a solid display and goal in either half against a beleaguered Welling side who did create some chances, but failed to take them at key times in the match.
The Ravens started the game well with Moses Emmanuel sending in a dangerous cross that Madek Rodak had to tip over the bar, Lee Minshull heading just over from the resulting corner.
Joe Anderson crossed for Adam Cunnington who headed wide before the home side’s pressure eventually paid off on 9 minutes. Cunnington and Emmanuel combined to set up Rhodell Gordon in space on the right and the Stevenage loanee curled in a sublime finish from the edge of the box off the underside of the bar.
The Wings responded to going behind with a decent spell of possession and twice Alan Julian had to make great saves from Tomi Adeloye, the second at point blank range in the six yard box following a scramble from a free kick.
As the half went on neither side really created any decent opportunities and the game drifted into the break.
Bromley started the second half strongly, Minshull hit a fierce half volley that Rodak did well to tip away, Adam Commbes headed wide and Emmanuel hit the bar from 20 yards after showing great feet and strength to hold off the Welling defence.
Gordon set up Emmanuel again soon after, but this time Rodak was on hand to make the save. On a rare break Kadel Daniel missed a great chance to equalise, striking his effort at Julian when well placed.
Then just before the hour mark The Ravens were gifted a second goal as Ian Gayle pulled Emmanuel to the ground in the box and Referee Busby made no hesitation in awarding the penalty.
After a lengthy delay for some gamesmanship from the visitors defence, which included digging their boots into the penalty spot and refusing to stand outside the area, Emmanuel blasted the ball straight down the middle past Rodak for 2-0.
From there Neil Smith opted to make a more defensive change in midfield bringing on Ben Chorley, but The Wings nearly pulled one back when Daniel hit a curling free kick that sailed narrowly over the bar soon after.
As the half went on Bromley continued to dominate possession, Rob Swaine turned a free kick just wide of the post and Ali Fuseini returned a poor clearance from Rodak narrowly over the bar, but at the death Welling missed the clearest chance.
Sahr Kabba setting up Michael Bakare, but the sub blazed the ball high over the bar when one on one with Julian.
This was The Ravens third win in a row under Interim Manager Neil Smith and the improvement in attitude, commitment and tactics were plain to see for the home fans.
For Welling it’s hard to see a way back out of the relegation zone without a league win since October.
