Bromley bounced back from the disappointment of losing their unbeaten run on Tuesday with a superb home performance winning the Kent derby against Maidstone United on Saturday.
It came with a display of solid defending and good attacking in a thoroughly entertaining and sometimes bruising game.
The Ravens got off to the perfect start in the game when they took the lead inside the first minute, Dave Martin broke down the left and sent over a great cross for Adam Cunnington who powerfully headed past Lee Worgan at the near post.
The Stones were clearly stung into action as for the next fifteen minutes or so they dominated possession, but the home defence was up to the task keeping the visitors at bay, with the best chance falling to Dan Sweeney who headed wide from a set piece.
Bromley battled back into things as the half went on, Blair Turgott fired wide, Rob Swaine had a shot saved by Worgan and Cunnington was off target with a shot from a tight angle.
A slick passing move down the right eventually came to Cunnington who forced a save from Worgan and he was denied by the former Tonbridge keeper again soon after when he pushed the target man’s header wide for a corner.
From the resulting set piece Conor Dymond crossed for Lee Minshull, but the influential midfielder headed just over.
The second half saw Maidstone start well, but again The Ravens back line kept them out of the danger zone. Bromley fought back again with Turgott shooting wide, before Martin had a dipping free kick saved by Worgan after a nasty looking challenge from Tom Mills who was lucky to only see yellow.
Martin was again involved on the next attack when he ended his strong run with a low drive that Worgan did well to save.
From the resulting corner a mass scramble in the six yard box saw Minshull hit the bar, Worgan save from George Porter and Jack Holland have an effort blocked on the line before the danger was finally cleared. Turgott was just off target again before he set up the second killer goal, when the young winger charged down the right and crossed for Porter who headed past Worgan for 2-0 on 65 minutes.
Turgott had a header saved soon after before another Stones player saw yellow when James Rogers launched two footed lung on Porter in the midfield which left the striker requiring lengthy treatment.
Maidstone’s best chance of the half fell to Jamar Loza, but his powerful run from midfield eventually saw Swaine make a fantastic block tackle as the sub shot on goal.
The Stones had another spell of pressure late on, but with no luck or clear chances. The final incident of note coming when Bromley sub Jordan Higgs was taken out at the knees by Sweeney, only for the lenient official to let the foul go unpunished.
The Ravens now sit in thirteenth place ahead of the start of their FA Trophy campaign next Saturday at Hayes Lane against Eastbourne Borough or Leiston.
