Bromley booked their place in Monday’s draw with a late goal in either half against a hard working Leiston side who had the best of the first 30 minutes and were unlucky to go in one down at the break.
The game between two sides in the play off spots of their respective leagues began in end to end fashion, but it was the visitors from Suffolk who then dominated with a wide ball that came back off the inside of the post before Seb Brown saved from Scott Mitchell and Tom Winter went close.
Reece Prestedge shot wide for The Ravens after good work by Moses Ademola and Damien Scannell before on 36 minutes with their first shot on target Bromley took the lead.
Danny Waldren’s low shot from 20 yards was inexplicably spilled by the usually solid Danny Gay and Jamie Slabber followed in to roll the ball over the line showing a poacher’s eye for goal.
The second half saw The Ravens look more like a side from a division above with long spells of pressure, Ademola hit the post with a fierce shot from the edge of the box, Louis Dennis shot wide, Ademola had another effort well saved and Gay also denied Waldren’s effort from distance.
After changes on the hour Jordan Robertson had a shot saved and Dennis chipped the ball just over the bar from 25 yards.
The killer goal came with eight minutes left when sub Ali Fuseini played in Dennis with a superb pass, the young winger then coolly slid the ball under the advancing keeper for 2-0.
Late on Leiston had a good spell with Stuart Boardley and Leon Ottley-Gooch both shooting just off target, but to no avail for Leiston.
Mark Goldberg will be pleased with the resilience the team showed today and a rare progression into the New Year in this competition.
