Bromley picked up a much needed win on Tuesday night at Hayes Lane as they completed the double over Kings Lynn thanks to two goals from Courtney Duffus.
It was testament to the incredible work of the ground staff at Bromley that this game went ahead with a huge amount of snow cleared off the 3G pitch in order to get the game on.
With the temperature dipping to -3c and snow still falling the game got off to a lively start as Bromley pressed, Tom Purrington and Duffus set up Michael Cheek who fired just wide.
Manager Neil Smith made several changes to his starting eleven from Saturday’s defeat at Weymouth with Purrington making his debut, while Jack Holland, Liam Trotter and Billy Bingham returned.
Frankie Raymond slotted in at left back to replace the suspended Chris Bush and he saw an early free kick hit the wall after a foul on Jack Bridge.
Bingham had a powerful goal bound shot bravely blocked by the head of Kyle Callan-McFadden, before Lynn had a decent spell of pressure. Duffus was having a great game up front, holding the ball up and drawing fouls and the Irish Under 21 International then made it an even better night when he opened his goal scoring account for The Ravens.
Bridge and Joe Kizzi combined to set up Duffus with a low cross to the near post which he flicked into the net from six yards out on 39 minutes.
Kings Lynn tried to respond going into the break, but too often Michael Gash was isolated and his hard work lead to nothing.
The second half started well for Bromley, Duffus curled an effort wide from the left and Raymond was denied by Archie Mair from a similar position soon after.
Duffus and Purrington set up Cheek who shot wide when well placed. Ian Culverhouse then changed the shape of the Linnets from there bringing on another striker, but The Ravens still pressed.
Raymond crossed for Duffus whose flicked header found Cheek, but his shot was saved by Mair. Bromley’s hard work eventually paid off on 68 minutes when Liam Trotter won the ball in midfield and played a superb pass to Duffus who coolly slotted the ball past Mair from just inside the box to make it 2-0.
Duffus could have made it three soon after, but chose to set up Trotter rather than shoot himself and the ex-Millwall midfielder saw his shot saved by Mair’s feet.
Holland then had a goal bound effort blocked, before Kings Lynn had a decent spell of possession, but the home defence held out to the task.
Late on Kizzi had a header saved from a corner, before the visitors pressed again, with Mark Cousins making a great save low down by the near post from a Dayle Southwell free kick.
In injury time Bromley could have had a penalty when Rory McAuley appeared to bring down the right back, but Referee Robert Whitton waved the appeals away.
The final whistle signalled a vital three points for Smith and his team, keeping a clean sheet and moving them up to eleventh in the table, three points of the play offs, prior to their trip to Wealdstone on Saturday.
