Two very nice goals from sub Brad Goldberg secured a hard fought win for Bromley against a rugged Guiseley side desperate for points to ease their relegation worries.
Bromley got off to a bright start with Moses Emmanuel & Adam Cunnington causing the visitors defence lots of problems with their movement.
Rob Swaine headed an early chance wide from a corner and Emmanuel shot just wide after a great flick on from strike partner Cunnington, but a The Ravens dominance of possession was let down by a lack of killer final ball.
Guiseley’s first effort on goal came after 20minutes when Liam Dickinson sent a 30 yard free kick over the bar and soon after James Hurst shot wide, but that was their sum total for the half.
As Neil Smith’s men pushed again Sean Francis headed wide and the lively Rhodell Gordon created a great chance for Lee Minshull who saw his header blocked on the line.
The visitors looked to squeeze the life out of the game and hope for a set piece to grab a goal, but they nearly went behind late in the half when Gordon sent in a fierce free kick from 30yards that Daniel Atkinson pushed away with both hands.
Just before the whistle a scuffle in midfield following a foul on Minshull resulted in two yellow cards for the visitors, but was excellently defused by the match officials.
The second half saw Bromley even more dominant, Cunnington fought his way into the box only to have his cross come shot cleared and Gordon did brilliantly to break free in the box soon after, but his shot across the face of the goal missed the target.
Emmanuel and Gordon went close again before Guiseley nearly went in front when Will Hatfield hit the bar from 35 yards out on a rare break.
Emmanuel sent in a good cross for Pierre Joseph-Dubois who saw his header saved by Atkinson before this season’s top scorer made way for Bradley Goldberg just after the hour mark.
As on Tuesday night it was the young striker’s introduction that gave The Ravens the extra impetus up front to break down a tough defensive line.
After Francis had headed a good chance from a corner wide, the breakthrough finally came on 70 minutes when Minshull sent in a dangerous cross for Goldberg who flicked his header into the roof of the net.
With Guiseley now having to come out and play Bromley exploited more space at the back with Gordon setting up Goldberg who fired wide and Cunnington crossing for Dubois who had another header saved by Atkinson.
The second killer goal came seven minutes from time when Goldberg made space for himself 25 yards out and curled a sublime effort past Atkinson and just inside the far post for 2-0.
The former manager’s son was mobbed by his teammates and looked like a man who had all the pressure taken off his shoulders.
Gordon, in his final game of his loan from Stevenage, nearly capped great game with a late effort which Atkinson saved, but none the less his contribution to the club’s survival over the last month has been immense.
Neil Smith now takes his side to Eastleigh on Tuesday night on the back of an unbeaten run of five wins and a draw in a superb revival under his tenure as Interim Manager.
