Bromley picked up their second consecutive National League victory with a comfortable win over relegation threatened Dorking Wanderers at Hayes Lane on Saturday afternoon thanks to goals from Omar Sowunmi and Charlie Kendall.
With Billy Bingham & Byron Webster injured, Ryan Stirk came into the midfield for his debut on loan from Birmingham City and Callum Reynolds slotted in at centre back next to Omar Sowunmi who deputised as captain.
The game got off to a lively start with The Ravens pressing, Corey Whitely found Charlie Kendall whose shot was saved by Daniel Lincoln and then Kennlen Fisher fired over from the rebound.
Dorking’s best chance came when Matt Briggs broke down the right and cut into the box, but his near post shot hit the side netting.
With the visitors briefly coming into things Briggs broke down the right again, this time his cross was spilled by Reice Charles-Cook before the ball was cleared to safety.
The pace slowed after the first fifteen minutes and there were numerous misplaced passes as both sides seem to struggle to settle, Dorking had a penalty appeal waved away when Briggs went down dramatically in the box in front of Sowunmi, before The Ravens pressed again.
A half cleared ball from a corner came out to Jude Arthurs who tried to lob Lincoln from twenty yards out, but the effort sailed over the bar. Besart Topalloj, Charlie Kendall and Kellen Fisher all combined to set up Whitely who shot wide from a tight angle, before Bromley got their break through on 39 minutes when Louis Dennis found Sowunmi at the near post and the commanding centre back converted from close range for 1-0 to give the home side the lead at the break.
The second half saw Bromley start on top again, an Arthurs free kick was knocked wide by Michael Cheek after a scramble in the six yard and they pressed from there.
Dorking’s only real effort to goal came when Daniel Gallagher headed a corner towards goal and after Charles-Cook had punched the ball back to the Wands defender he shot over from ten yards out.
The game was as good as finished on 66 minutes when The Ravens grabbed their second goal, Whitely broke down the left and found Kendall who cut into the box and finished low into the corner of the net for 2-0, his first goal for the club since joining on loan from Lincoln City.
Whitely went close soon after with a dipping effort from range and the home side dominated the play for the final quarter.
Arthurs fired agree kick over, Fisher crossed for Adam Marriott whose header was saved by Lincoln and then after a brief rally from Dorking late on, Bromley had one final chance when the impressive Stirk played in Harry Forster whose near post effort was well saved by Lincoln low down to his left.
The win takes Bromley up to seventh in the table ahead of their trip to third place Woking on Tuesday night.
