Bromley suffered their first National League home defeat of the season on Tuesday night as they conceded three goals in six minutes at the end of the game to lose out to an impressive Barnet side.
The game began with Barnet pushing for an early goal, Harry Pritchard having a header saved by Tom Smith and The Bees pressed with a series of corners and free kicks.
Bromley just couldn’t get going and were sloppy when in possession of the ball when they did have it. Marvin Armstrong, who troubled the home defence with his pace, went close with a shot that deflected wide and Dale Gorman hit the bar from 20 yards out from the set piece.
Corey Whitely had a shot saved on a rare break up field for Bromley, but as the half went on The Ravens did finally start to ask the visitors some questions.
Michael Cheek making his 150th appearance for the club could have opened the scoring when he latched on to a Chris Bush long throw, but last season’s top scorer fired wide of the goal when well placed. Charles Clayden, making his home debut, then saw a shot from the edge of the area go just wide, before Barnet had two late chances with Sam Woods and Gorman going close.
The second half saw Bromley start well, Clayden had a shot saved by Laurie Walker after a strong spell of pressure, but then Barnet came back into things. Bees striker Nicke Kabamba went down in the box and while appeals for a penalty were waved away Gorman hit the side netting from a tight angle.
As the hour mark came The Ravens produced another good spell, Clayden set up Cheek who fired wide, but five minutes later Bromley did break the deadlock. James Vennings playing a great ball across goal from the bye line for Clayden to crash the ball home at the far post for 1-0.
Barnet manager Dean Brennan then made three substitutions and they started to press Bromley back again. Kian Flanagan crossed for Kabamba whose brave diving header went off for a corner off Bush.
With the game really stretched Billy Bingham shot narrowly wide from range after great work by Whitely, but then on the break The Bees won a corner when Ben Wynter’s shot deflected wide and from the dead ball Idris Kanu curled in a superb goal from 20 yards out, in off the far post for 1-1.
With Barnet now smelling blood, they pressed for a winner and after Harry Forster had brought down Kanu on a break up field, Rob Hall crossed for Pritchard who headed the ball into the roof of the net for 2-1 to the visitors in the 90th minute.
Only a minute later the game was killed off when Barnet made it 3-1 through Pritchard again, this time he produced a fantastic finish from long range giving Smith no chance.
With the home fans leaving in their droves, George Alexander almost pulled one back for Bromley, but Walker made the save from inside the area to keep the score at 1-3.
Bromley now have to regroup ahead of their trip to Maidenhead Utd on Saturday, looking to turn round a run of three consecutive defeats.
