Bromley 1-2 Heybridge Swifts
Bromley 1-2 Heybridge Swifts

In this clash between Conference South high flyers and Ryman Division One North promotion chasers it was the visitors who came out on top.Bromley

Having won away from home through three previous rounds Swifts were up for the challenge.

In perfect conditions, which was a tribute to the Bromley ground staff given the previous night’s rain, the game began with Bromley on top, but after a series of corners things evened out.

Then from a set piece on 29 minutes Kevin Dobinson crashed in a low drive from a corner to make it 0-1.

Heybridge then made it two on 45 minutes when Aaron Greene finished off a great move with a fierce drive.

In first half injury time Bromley grabbed a lifeline when Jacob Erskine headed home a Rob Swaine knock down to make it 1-2 at the break.

The second half was a tale of Bromley possession, but they failed to break down a solid Heybridge defence too often over playing or failing to find the right pass.

Late on Bromley had a few chances from set pieces, but the break through never came Bradley Goldberg blazed over along with Nick Eyre saving from Danny Waldren and Rob Swaine.

Swifts earned their place in the fourth qualifying round while Bromley now have to reassess their season.
