Bromley grabbed a fortunate late equaliser to take a valuable point from a keenly contested National League game between two Kentish sides at a wet Hayes Lane on Saturday.

Just prior to kick off Mark Goldberg had to make a late change when Max Porter pulled up and Reece Prestedge was called from the bench, leaving The Ravens with only two substitutions for the match.

The game began with Dover on top, but gradually Bromley battled back into things with chances created at both ends.

Brad Goldberg flicked a header just wide and Ben Chorley headed a corner over soon after before Dover’s Nick Deverdics hit the bar at the other end and Stefan Payne fired over.

The Ravens pressed late in the half as Anthony Cook had a low drive tipped round the post by Mitch Walker, Prestedge was just off target with a free kick and Joe Anderson hit a cross come shot just over the angle of post and bar.

After Cook’s early effort was saved by Walker the second half saw Dover start the better again, Payne forced a great save from Alan Julian and went close twice again soon after, shooting wide and then back heeling a low Deverdics cross against the foot of the post.

The away side’s dominance eventually told on 67 minutes when Ricky Miller found Deverdics who was given time and space in the box to coolly place the ball high into the net to give Dover the lead.

Deverdics went close again and Liam Bellamy shot over before Bromley found some impetus with the introduction of Pierre Joseph-Dubois in midfield.

With Cook having had a couple of earlier penalty appeals turned down, he was clearly tripped in the box by Tyrone Sterling with only three minutes left and Referee Hicks pointed to  the spot.

Goldberg stepped up to take the spot kick and his effort was saved  low to his left by Walker who was unable to gather the ball, but the striker was first on hand to convert the rebound and notch his first goal of the season.

In the remaining minutes Payne went close again for Dover, but both sides had to settle for a point.

Bromley now travel to Forest Green Rovers on Monday for another tough assignment still trying to find their feet at this higher level of football.
