Bromley 1-1 Carlisle United
Bromley 1-1 Carlisle United

Bromley drew another game 1-1 on Saturday afternoon when they conceded a late equaliser in their League Two game home with Carlisle United at Hayes Lane, going down to ten men only a few minutes earlier and failing to hold on.

The Ravens started the game looking very positive, pressing Carlisle’s passing game and looking to make a series of set pieces and long throws count.

Louis Dennis was denied by a great challenge from Jon Mellish and Idris Odutayo forced a save from Gabe Breeze after a strong run down the left.

Carlisle’s first chance came on 20 minutes, when Dan Adu-Adjei latched on to a great pass from Cameron Harper, but Grant Smith made the vital save.

For Bromley, Omar Sowunmi had a header from a Jude Arthurs corner tipped over by Breeze, before Ben Williams made a great block to deny Michael Cheek.

Late in the half with Andy Woodman having changed shape to 4-4-2, United had a strong spell of pressure, Kadeem Harris set up Dom Sadi who forced a great save out of Smith and as they continued to press Arthurs and Byron Webster made brave blocks to deny Sadi and Harris from the edge of the area. With Mike Willaimson’s side completely on top, Smith was on hand again to thwart Sadi from 20 yards.

The second half saw Bromley start back in their usual 5-3-2 and looking to press forward. Their positivity was rewarded on 53 minutes when Danny Imray surged into the box and was brought down by Williams for a penalty.

Cheek stepped up and smashed the ball past Breeze to put The Ravens in front from the spot. Carlisle responded from there, Adu-Adjei firing just over after a good run from midfield and Callum Guy shooting over from range.

After a long spell of possession from the visitors with Bromley dropping deep, they were handed a numerical advantage when sub Lewis Leigh was sent off for catching Guy with a stray arm while challenging for a ball in midfield.

Carlisle pressed again against the ten men, Bromley’s only chance coming when Ben Thompson shot from the halfway line, but Breeze scrambled back to guide the ball to safety.

Heading into the seven minutes of injury time Adu-Adjei had a shot saved by Smith, but from the following long throw United finally found their equaliser, when Adi-Adjei converted from close range after a scramble in the six yard, which Bromley failed to clear.

With time almost up Bromley gave the ball away from a free kick and Carlisle looked to win the game with a final break, but Thompson got back to make the intervention and preserve the point for the home side.

A draw was a fair result over the game, which saw eight bookings and one red, despite not really being an overly physical match. Bromley now sit in twentieth place ahead of their trip to Salford City next Saturday, having not won a home game in the league since August and picking up another suspension for a red card.
