Bromley evenly matched their League Two opponents, only condeding an injury time equaliser in a game of few chances at Hayes Lane.
The Ravens started well with Bradley Goldberg having an effort deflected over, although a corner was not awarded.
A delay follwoing an injury to Paul Rodgers saw the game slow and the midfield play from both sides was often disjointed.
Later in the half Barry Corr missed a chance for United when well placed and they also had a strong shout for a penalty turned down when Rob Swaine collided with former Ross County striker Jordan Slew.
The second half saw Bromley start well, but Anthony Cook’s two efforts on goal were wayward.
There were mass changes on the hour mark, but The Ravens still had the better of things with Alex Wall shooting wide from the edge of the box.
Late on Bromley were literally handed a chance to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty for handball.
Wall smashed home the spot kick with seven minutes left, leaving Sam Beasant with no chance.
After Bromley lost their other right back Ugo Udoji to injury Cambridge had a late spell of pressure, Mark Roberts headed over and Robbie Simpson forced a save from sub Keeper Dean Gardikiotis.
Then in injury time the visitors equaliser came as Simpson headed home a deep cross at the far post, which will be something Mark Golberg’s side will have to work on.
The Ravens can take a lot of positives from the game although with three games left in pre-season, the starting line up for 8th August is still far from clear.
Next up is a trip to Beckenham Town on Monday.
