Bromley picked up another valuable League Two point courtesy of a late Michael Cheek penalty having trailed an impressive Barrow side since the twentieth minute at a murky Hayes Lane on Saturday afternoon.
Andy Woodman went into the game with an unchanged line up from the win at Doncaster in midweek and they started the game looking positive, but too often they gave the ball away in midfield when trying to create something.
After the initial quarter of an hour Barrow started to ask questions of Bromley and they took the lead with their first real attack when Katia Kouyate’s low cross from the left found Gerrad Garner in space and he swept the ball home from ten yards out to make it 1-0 to The Bluebirds.
From there the visitors began to press again, Garner had a shot saved by Grant Smith who then denied Robbie Gotts and Ben Jackson’s long range efforts. Both Bromley strikers had to drop so deep to get the ball, they were often behind the midfield and The Ravens’ best creative outlets were wing backs Danny Imray & Idris Odutayo, but their crosses into the box were dealt with comfortably by the Barrow defence.
The second half saw Bromley start on the front foot, with the introduction of three substitutes in Michael Cheek, Louis Dennis and Cameron Congreve.
Early corners saw Congreve have a shot saved by Wyll Stanway and the Barrow keeper then made a superb finger tip save to deny Imray’s powerful volley from 20 yards out.
Dennis headed wide from a corner as Bromley had a great spell of pressure, but Barrow defence was resolute.
The Ravens mometum slowed midway through the half and Barrow began to press again, Kian Spence forcing a superb save from Smith after turning sharply in the box.
Andy Woodman changed the shape of his side for the final fifteen minutes, introducing Carl Jenkinson and going 4-4-2.
Omar Sowunmi headed wide across goal from a corner as the home side pressed for an equaliser and Imray then set up Cheek who was denied at point-blank range by Stanway.
With The Bluebirds trying to run the clock down, Bromley fashioned one more chance, when a scramble from a corner in the six yard box saw Referee Mr Richardson award a penalty to The Ravens for handball.
After lengthy protests, Barrow manager Stephen Clemence was sent off and the clock had ticked into injury time before Cheek eventually smashed the spot kick home straight down the middle to make it 1-1.
Injury time saw Barrow press for a winner, with a series of long throws and pressure around the box, but The Ravens held out and secured a precious point in their debut EFL campaign.
The draw leaves Bromley in eighteenth ahead of their FA Cup trip to National League Rochdale next Saturday.
