Bromley moved four points clear at the top of the National League with a stylish win over third placed Woking in front of over 2,300 fans at Hayes Lane on Tuesday night.
Woking started the game on the front foot with Jamal Loza having an early chance saved by Mark Cousins and a succession of corners that followed, but Bromley held out and started the impose themselves on the game.
Luke Coulson had a shot saved by Craig Ross and the Card keeper was also on hand to deny Chris Bush’s header from the resulting corner. Josh Casey blazed over after a quick break up field from Woking as the game opened up, Loza fired just wide and Casey had a free kick saved by Cousins.
When The Ravens attacked, Alfie Doughty connected with a Coulson cross with a looping header, but Ross somehow tipped the ball over the bar as he fell backwards. Loza went close again soon after, but he could only find the side netting when side footing a Jack Cook cross at the far post.
The break through goal came on 38 minutes when Billy Bingham sent in a dangerous free kick from out wide and Michael Cheek slid in to turn the ball past Ross from six yards out to put Bromley in front as the visitors appealing for offside.
Cheek almost made it two just before the break when he connected with a Coulson cross with his head, but Ross made another good save.
Bromley started the second half looking to attack, stepping up the tempo and pressing Woking from the front. Nathan Collier slipped to let in Cheek whose shot was parried by Ross, but he atoned by getting back on the line and clearing Doughty’s attempt from the rebound.
Reeco Hackett-Fairchild drove a shot from distance narrowly over and Doughty saw a cross deflected towards goal, which Ross saved low down at his far post. Woking pushed centre back Collier up front as they looked to ease the pressure, but the big balls pumped into the box by The Cards were comfortably dealt with by the ever impressive Marc-Anthony Okoye who won every header he challenged for.
Sub Adrian Clifton nearly made an immediate impact when Hackett crossed for the striker to head towards goal, but Ross made another great save to deny the Monserrat international.
Hackett went close again and Chris Bush has a shot saved from a corner as The Ravens continued to have the better of things, while Woking were unable to find a way through the home defence.
Neil Smith’s side now travel to Yeovil Town on Saturday looking to take their unbeaten run to fourteen games this season and maintain their lead at the top of the table.
