Bromley 1-0 Woking

Bromley picked up another win that keeps them in touch with the league leaders thanks to a slightly fortunate first half goal from Jude Arthurs against a spirited Woking side who dominated the second half at a very chilly Hayes Lane on Tuesday night.

The match got off to a very open start, Michael Cheek went close early on when he beat Cards Keeper Mark Smith to a through ball from George Alexander, but he hit the near post from a tight angle from just inside the six yard box.

From there The Ravens had a strong spell of pressure and it eventually paid off on 24 minutes when Arthurs close down Smith as he went to clear the ball and it deflected off the Bromley midfielder and looped up over the Woking custodian and dropped into the goal just over the line.

Woking did have some spells of pressure around the Bromley area, but they couldn’t find that final ball when it counted.

Late in the half there were chances at both ends with Luke Coulson crossing for Arthurs who headed wide, before Tarryn Allarkhia fired over at the other end.

Bromley then went close again when Arthurs had a shot deflected wide for a corner and then Chris Bush had a shot saved by Smith, but there were no more goals.

The second half started with Woking pressing, Rohan Ince shot over & Nicke Kabamba fired wide, while at the other end Bromley striker Alexander was crudely upended by Mousa Diarra as he broke down the right, which ended with The Cards defender booked.

Bromley manager Andy Woodman chose to bring on defender Tom Partington to play in front of the defence and from there they sat ever deeper inviting pressure on.

Woking had a series of corners with David Longe-King blasting over from the edge of the box. Alan Dowson’s men kept pressing from there with Tyreke Johnson crossing for Kabamba who headed over from twelve yards out.

James Alabi came on to help hold the ball up front for Bromley in the final ten minutes and Cards defender Louie Annesley was shown a second yellow card when he brought the striker down right on the edge of the area as he ran past him.

Bromley sub Jack Cawley had a free kick saved by Smith before the visitors had one final spell of pressure late on. A Johnson free kick found Inih Effiong, but his goal bound shot deflected wide for a corner and from there Longe-King was off target from just inside the box before the final whistle saved Bromley, who despite not playing at their best picked up their fourteenth National League win of the season.

The victory keeps Bromley in fourth ahead of their home game with fellow play off contenders Notts County on Saturday afternoon.
