A Louis Dennis screamer deep into injury time saw Bromley maintain their good league form that has only seen them lose one game in the last nine and in the process see them rise to ninth in the league table.
However up until Dennis’ late intervention the game looked destined for a draw as both teams huffed and puffed across the ninety minutes to limited effect. Despite a season high crowd of 2,036 there was little to cheer as both sides could only muster two shots on target prior to injury time.
Matt Tubbs went closest for Sutton in the first half as he profited from a loose defensive header that dropped to him on the penalty spot, but he could only fire his volley wide when it seemed easier to hit the target.
Bromley did not threaten the Sutton goal until four minutes before the half time whistle, Blair Turgott’s cross found George Porter in space but he toe-poked his effort high over the bar.
The second half brought no upsurge in quality as the pitch hindered either side being able to maintain any consistent attacking play of note.
Although Adam Cunnington flashed a header wide shortly after the restart and Matt Tubbs forced a fine reaction save from Alan Julian in the Bromley goal. There was little to write home about as the clocked ticked down into injury time.
With seconds remaining in second half stoppage time, a cross was partially cleared by the Sutton defence into the path of Dennis, 25 yards out from goal, who swivelled and hit a dipping, swerving effort into the top corner giving Worner no chance.
Neil Smith was frank, at the final whistle, in his assessment of the game but effusive in his praise for Dennis, he said “I didn’t envisage a goal of that quality given how scrappy the game was but I’ll take that all day long, we know Louis Dennis has that in his locker and it’s great to see him win the game in that way”
