A 62nd minute Hakeem Araba strike was enough for Bromley to see off their promotion chasing visitors from Essex and boost their own chances of staying up.
Chelmsford dominated the early play with Sam Corcoran having a header saved by Joe Welch, but as the half went on Bromley too created chances with both Albert Jarrett& Hakeem Araba having efforts saved by Stuart Searle.
The ever dangerous Ricky Modeste fired a strong shot just over late on, but the half remained scoreless.
The second half saw The Clarets dominate the early stages again, Modeste hit the post, but Bromley held out against the pressure and created good chances on the break.
The only goal came just after the hour when Araba latched on to a ball over the top and held off a defender to steer the ball past Searle and put The Ravens in front.
Both sides had penalty shouts turned down as the play became increasingly more open and frenetic. Bromley going close via Michael Malcolm & Jarrett, while Chelmsford had two late corners that the home side managed to scramble away.
This was Chelmsford’s first away defeat in the league since March 2011 and Bromley’s first home league win since August and a marked improvement for Mark Goldberg’s side at Hayes Lane.
