Bromley’s new look squad started their pre-season campaign with a tough work out against Martin Allen’s newly promoted Gillingham side.Bromley

The Gills had already played two games, and Mark Goldberg’s men came out very much second best.

In sweltering heat both sides chose to play at a more sensible tempo, but the League One side created the better chances from the off having two goals ruled out for offside as well as Myles Weston being denied twice by George Howard.

The Gills eventually broke through on 28 minutes when Bradley Dack scored a fine solo effort for 0-1.

Weston went close again before Adam Barrett made it 2-0 on 34 minutes converting a low cross from the right.

The Kent side’s third came courtesy of a penalty on 39 minutes for a poor challenge in the box, Danny Kedwell sending Howard the wrong way.

Before the break Dack almost made it four, but he fired wide when well placed.

The second half saw mass changes on both sides and the heat dictated an even slower tempo.

Gills new signing Adebayo Akinfenwa had a header saved by Howard, while Bromley new boy Sabir Mullings had two efforts saved by Stuart Nelson.

Late on Kane Haysman hit the post for the visitors while former top scorer Warren McBean, returning after a year out injured, had a good chance saved by Nelson.
