Bromley 0-2 Stockport County
Bromley 0-2 Stockport County

In the first National League game at Hayes Lane with supporters in attendance since February Bromley’s unbeaten run came out an end as they were picked off by an impressive Stockport County side with a goal in either half.

Bromley got off to a bright start with Luke Coulson volleying narrowly wide, but County also had a spell of pressure as the game opened up with a series of corners. Coulson set up Reeco Hackett who had an effort saved by Ben Hinchcliffe who was also on hand to deny Coulson with the rebound.

Hinchcliffe’s long targeted kicks were a threat for the visitors and one pin point delivery found Connor Jennings whose half volleyed effort came back off the post. Hackett put in a cross for Bromley which Liam Hogan did well to head away for a corner, which eventually came out to Kizzi who headed wide.

Then on fifteen minutes Stockport took the lead when Jennings’ cross was kicked off the line by Kizzi only for the ball to cannon back off Alex Reid and end up in the net. Bromley rallied from there with Liam Trotter crossing for James Alabi who just failed to connect with his diving header.

Mark Kitching went close with a cross shot for County and then he set up Reid who directed his effort narrowly wide.

The Ravens responded with Chris Bush setting up Michael Cheek whose goal bound shot was blocked, as was Hackett’s effort from the rebound. Bush then played in Kizzi who passed to Byron Webster, but his powerful ball across the area was turned over the bar by Cheek at the far post.

Late on Hackett found Bush with a ball form out wide, but the defender headed wide.

Bromley made a bright start to the second half, Kizzi found Cheek with a deep cross, but the striker headed wide when well placed.

Hackett went close from the edge of box soon after, but it was Stockport who then extended their lead on the hour mark when Sam Minihan played a low cross into John Rooney who was given time and space in the box to coolly slot the ball into the corner of the net for 2-0.

Rooney then found Richard Bennet with a cross, but the big number nine headed over. The Ravens pressed in the last fifteen minutes, a long throw from Bush found Webster whose header was saved by Hinchcliffe and Hackett went close again from range.

Coulson and Cheek combined to set up Kizzi at the far post, but his sliding effort was just off target on the stretch.

Late on Bush hit the bar with a thunderbolt of an effort from 30yards out and Billy Bingham was denied by Hinchcliffe as Jim Gannon’s side kept their clean sheet and secured all three points, Louis Britton having the final shot of the game, which Mark Cousins saved.

Neil Smith’s Bromley now sit fifth in the table ahead of their next home game on Tuesday night when they entertain Yeovil Town.
