Bromley began a week of cup football by hosting Corinthian Casuals of Ryman League Division One South at Hayes Lane in the London Senior Cup on Monday night.
The club reduced admission prices to £5 for this game, but they had a mercifully small crowd to witness a very disappointing defeat.
The Ravens started well with Kai Brewtser and Adam Birchall going close. Jamie Byatt sot just wide for Casuals before a slick passing move between Ali Fuseini, Ayo Thompson and Brewster saw the young winger denied by Danny Bracken. Casuals posed more of a threat as the half went on, but there were no real chances of note.
The second half saw Casuals start on top and they were in front on 52 minutes when Callum McNaughton slipped in possession of the ball and Cisse Bamoussa ran through and slipped the ball under Paul Agu.
Briefly Bromley rallied, Fuseini shot just off target, Eden Dewar-Douglas had a shot saved and Brewster had a shot blocked after a strong run into the box. Birchall was off target with a header and also scuffed a shot over the bar, Conal O’Leary headed over, but the whole Ravens performance was lacking in drive and passion.
The killer blow was landed in injury time when McNaughton capped a forgettable night with a clumsy foul on Byatt for a penalty.
Byatt smashed the spot kick down the middle for 2-0 to book a home game against AFC Wimbledon in the next round to the delight of their small, but vocal band of supporters.
The Ravens next slightly more glamorous cup exploit takes them down to Devon on Saturday where they face Conference Premier promotion chasers Torquay United at Plainmoor in the FA Trophy Second Round.
