Bromley 0-1 Solihull Motors

Despite having lots of possession throughout the game Bromley were unable to prevent Solihull completing the double over them in a hard fought game at Hayes Lane on Saturday.

Bromley started well with the lively Brandon Hanlan having a goal bound shot blocked by Liam Daly, but they were soon behind when harry White was given time and space on the edge of The Ravens box to curl his shot just inside the far post on 9minutes.

Bromley continued to press with Blair Tutgott firing just wide, but as the half went on they lost momentum and White should have made to 2-0 when he put an effort wide of the target from close range. After Hanlan was brought down on the edge of the box, Turgott’s free kick deflected wide off the wall and soon after Hanlan surged into the box, but saw his shot saved low down at the near post by Nathan Baxter who then appeared to bring down Lee Minshull when challenging for the loose ball, bit Referee Hicks waved the appeals away.

The second half saw Bromley press again, Louis Dennis set up Hanlan who scuffed his shot wide, but too often the final ball was easily gathered unchallenged by Baxter or cleared away by the robust Moors back line marshalled by Daly who put in a captain’s performance. Minshull had to go off with a nasty head wound after a stray elbow caught him challenging for a header and jack Holland also received treatment for a bloody nose sustained challenging for a corner.

Sub Brad Goldberg had a shot saved by Baxter after more good work by Dennis, but The Ravens just lacked the ability to get the break through. Late on Danny Udoh was controversially sent off for a second yellow card when he was judged to have dived after taking the ball round debutant Keeper Ross Flitney who looked to have brought him down for a penalty. In one final incident Bromley’s afternoon was summed up when George Porter weaved his way into the box before falling over in the act of shooting sending the ball out for a goal kick.

Despite the defeat Bromley remain in eleventh place and after a difficult week of high profile departures Neil Smith will have to rally his squad ahead of their trip to Dagenham on Tuesday night.
