Despite a spirited display in the second half Bromley suffered another home defeat as they failed to break through a stubborn Macclesfield defence in the swirling rain at Hayes Lane on Saturday.
Before the game the club paid tribute to Makayah McDermott the under 11’s player who tragically lost his life in a road accident last month, with his team mates forming a guard of honour for the players in an emotional display of unity.
The Ravens started well with a series of corners, which saw Tobi Sho-Silva forcing a fine save from Craig Ross. The momentum tailed off though as the half went on and things evened out before the visitors took the lead in spectacular fashion on twenty minutes.
Danny Rowe picked up the ball in space 30 yards from goal and sent an unstoppable curling drive past a stranded Alan Julian to give Macclesfield the lead with their first effort on goal.
Chris Holroyd went close to doubling The Silkmen’s lead soon after before Bromley battled back into things. Going into the break Neil Smith’s men started to dominate when Joe Howe sent in a great ball for Sho-Silva who nodded the ball down to Blair Turgot, but the young winger blazed his shot over, then Sho-Silva hit the bar with a header and Joe Anderson’s follow up was saved by Ross. The visitors holding out til the half.
The second half saw Bromley do plenty of pressing, but they struggled to find a way through the Macclesfield defence, George Porter played in Alfie Pavey whose shot was deflected wide and Turgot had a shot cleared off the line by John McCombie after beating Ross.
Then Rob Swaine headed a free kick past Ross from ten yards, but the ball bounce off the inside of the post and out to safety.
Turgot had a superb drive effort palmed away by Ross and Porter were also denied by the Macc Keeper before late on the visitors started to also create chances, exploiting the gaps in the home midfield. Jack Sampson, Jack Mackreith and Rowe all had shots well saved by Julian, before in injury time Bromley had one final chance when Brad Goldberg hit a free kick over the bar from twenty yards out.
Bromley now travel to Maidstone United on Tuesday looking for a result that will ease them away from what looks to be a relegation battle even at this stage of the season.
