Once again Bromley failed to perform in front of a big home crowd as they were unable to match Chelmsford for intensity and commitment, with the visitors well deserving of their three points over the piece at another well attended Family Fun Day at Hayes Lane.
The Ravens started well with Adam Birchall and the lively Damien Scannell just off target following good passing moves.
Birchall was involved again soon after when he had a powerful shot saved by Nicky Eyre before blasting the rebound over the bar after great work from Moses Ademola and Scannell.
The visitors settled though and late in the half they took their opportunity when with Rob Swaine off injured Christian Smith superbly converted a deep free kick from the right as Bromley defended with only one centre back and ten men.
The captain was substituted straight after, but the major damage was done.
Bromley started the second half with real purpose and were awarded a penalty after Scannell had been brought down.
Unfortunately for the home side Danny Waldren drove the spot kick over the bar, Bromley’s third penalty miss of the season so far.
Chelmsford once again settled to the task, defending solidly and winning the battle in midfield.
The Ravens had a spell of pressure just after the hour, but the closest they came was Scannell’s lob from a tight angle which was headed off the line.
Mark Goldberg’s side lost their way soon after that opting for the long ball which played right into City’s hands and failed to create any real chances with just one late Jack Holland header from a corner sailing over.
