Bromley battled out an entertaining draw with fellow play off challengers Wrexham in front of a bumper crowd at Hayes Lane on Saturday afternoon.

In blustery conditions Bromley got off to a positive start with a flurry of corners and long throws, but the visitors defence dealt well with the aerial assault.

The closest The Ravens came was when Luke Coulson crossed and Michael Cheek turned the ball wide on the half volley. Wrexham came back into things as the half went on, Aaron Hayden headed a corner wide at the far post, Paul Mullin volleyed over and Max Cleworth headed another corner over.

Reece Hall-Jonson caused Bromley problems down the right and put in a number of dangerous crosses, while Ali Al-Hamadi was Bromley’s main threat with his pace chasing long balls.

Late in the half Al-Hamadi played in Scott Wagstaff down the left, but he scuffed his chance across the goal and then Jude Arthurs headed wide from a Luke Coulson ball.

The second half started with the play wide open and chances at either end, Mullin had a header saved by Bromley keeper Ellery Balacombe, while Coulson dragged a chance wide after good work by Al-Hamadi.

Just past the hour mark, Al-Hamadi challenged Wrexham keeper Rob Lainton who recovered to make a save from Coulson and then Cheek put the rebound over the bar from close range.

Following this Lainton had to be carried off with a leg injury and was replaced by sub keeper Christian Dibble, who quickly made a save from Cheek out wide.

With The Ravens pressing Cheek & Al-Hamadi linked up well down the right to win a corner and from Coulson’s resulting set piece Cheek’s header was blocked in the six yard box.

With the game still wide open and with both teams giving the ball away cheaply there were further chances at either end, with both having spells of pressure. James Jones fired over following a long throw from Ben Tozer and The Red Dragons had a penalty shout turned down when Bush collided with Hall-Johnson in the area, but Referee Mr Quelch waved the appeals away.

At the other end Cheek had a goal ruled out for offside, before Wrexham went close twice when a Jordan Davies free kick deflected off the wall for a corner and Hall-Johnson then had a shot deflect wide off Byron Webster.

Heading into the eight minutes of injury time Bromley had a good spell, Billy Bingham shot wide from 25 yards and Whitely narrowly missed connecting to a great cross from Coulson. Wrexham sub Davies had a header saved by Balacombe, while after James Alabi had won a corner, Couslon’s ball was headed over by Bush at the other end.

A final series of Bromley corners and long throws were repelled by the Wrexham defence and this thoroughly engrossing encounter ended goalless.

The draw moves Andy Woodman’s team up to ninth in the National League, four points off the play offs ahead of their trip to Yeovil Town on Tuesday night.
