Bromley picked up another creditable point with their first game of the New Year.

Bromley v Cambridge United Pre-season Friendly 25/07/2015.

However, they will be left a little frustrated that they didn’t collect all three from an entertaining match played in pouring rain at Hayes lane on Saturday afternoon.

The game began in lively fashion with the play flowing from end to end, but as things went on Bromley looked the stronger side and created some good chances.

Paul Rodgers set up Moses Emmanuel who fired over and Emmanuel was also denied by Max Crocombe after a good ball from Bradley Goldberg.

The excellent Rodgers and Emmanuel combined well to set up Goldberg soon after, but he rushed his finished and blasted the ball over the bar.

Emmanuel’s strong run set up Adam Cunnington, but his low shot from the edge of the box skidded just wide. Sean Francis headed over from a corner at the back post and Lee Minshull had an effort saved at the second attempt by Crocombe after it had kicked up off the turf.

Then as the half drew to an end Southport had their best spell, Louis Almond had two efforts saved by Alan Julian while Andrew Wright shot wide when well placed in the area.

The Sandgrounders started the second half well too, Paul Rutherford forced a save from Julian before The Ravens battled back into things.

Rob Swaine headed wide from a corner, Joe Anderson put a free kick just wide and Alex Wall had a shot deflected wide after a superb pass from Rodgers split the visiting defence.

Mike Phenix missed a good chance and Liam Nolan was denied by Julian as Southport rallied, but Bromley finished the stronger.

Wall had a goal ruled out for offside after a great one two with Emmanuel and the two combined again in injury time when Emmanuel’s effort was deflected for a corner, but the Visitors held out and continued their unbeaten run under Dino Maamria with a resilient display of solid defending.

The Ravens now have to wait ten days for their next game at home to Grimsby Town, but will be pleased with a point that keeps space between them and the bottom four.
