Defender Gabriel Zakuani will return as Gillingham seek to secure their League One status at Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

Zakuani missed last week’s 3-0 home defeat to Blackpool after suffering a head injury against Rotherham United a few days earlier.

Skipper Lee Martin should feature after being withdrawn against Blackpool at half-time following a chest infection, leaving Billy Bingham as the only absentee.

There should also be a recall for Bradley Garmston as Steve Lovell’s side look to pick up a win that would guarantee them another season in the third tier of English football.

Goalkeeper Tom Hadler made his first senior appearance for the Gills in that Blackpool defeat, and boss Steve Lovell must decide whether to stick with the 21-year-old or recall Tomas Holy.

Sitting 17th in the league, four points above the relegation zone with two games left to play, The Gills know even a point may be enough to secure survival.

Lee Brown will wear the armband on his final Bristol Rovers appearance at home to The Gills.

The left-back has made 317 appearances since joining Rovers in 2011 and is ending his seven-year stay at the Memorial Ground to be nearer his London home.

Liam Sercombe, Rovers’ newly-crowned player of the year, ended a two-game absence against Wigan in midweek after injury and is expected to start again. Tom Nichols and Rory Gaffney are options should manager Darrell Clarke decide to freshen up his attack.

Bristol Rovers have managed just one victory in their last eight league meetings with Gillingham (D1 L6), although that did come in their last home clash in October 2016 (2-1).

The Gills have won just one of their last six league visits to the Memorial Stadium (D2 L3), winning 2-0 in January 2013 in League Two.

The Pirates are unbeaten in their last seven league games on home soil (W2 D5), but have drawn each of their last three 1-1. They last drew four in a row at home in the league back in March 2005.

Gillingham have won just one of their last six league games on the road (D2 L3), and have failed to score in two of their last three (D1 L2).
