Many fans were disappointed with the decision to let Jose Riga leave the club in the summer of 2014.
The Addicks had accumulated 24 points from 16 games under Riga’s tutelage at the end of the 2013/14 season.
Duchatelet wanted Bob Peeters to lead Charlton into the 2014/15 season, with Riga taking charge of crisis club Blackpool.
After leaving Bloomfield Road, Riga had a spell at Standard Liege, as well as Metz.
Current head coach, Karel Fraeye, was Riga’s assistant during his time at The Valley. Riga, like Paul Hart, likes to coach the youngsters coming through a club’s academy.
One of the reasons why Peeters is thought to have been preferred in 2014, is Duchatelet was concerned about Riga’s short tenure at jobs.
Fraeye has injury concerns ahead of the vital Boxing Day clash with Bristol City at Ashton Gate.
City have won two, drawn four and lost five of their home games, the wins coming against Midlands duo, Nottingham Forest and Wolves.
Patrick Bauer and Ricardo Vaz Te look unlikely to figure over the Holiday weekend, though Fraeye is hopeful of having Ademola Lookman and Johann Gudmundsson available again.
With Bauer missing, the head coach will probably move Alou Diarra back into the heart of the defence, to partner Harry Lennon.
The Addicks could look something like this:
Henderson; Solly, Diarra, Lennon, Fox; Cousins, Jackson; Gudmundsson, Ghoochannejhad, Lookman; Makienok.
Subs: Pope, Holmes-Dennis, Sarr, Konsa, Bergdich, Charles-Cook, Ahearne-Grant.
The referee will be Oliver Langford from the West Midlands.
Charlton desperately need a good haul of points from the three holiday fixtures, and Fraeye will be hopeful of picking up his second away win of the season at Ashton Gate.
