Charlton took a well earned point away from their initial trip to the Amex Stadium.
The stadium is impressive from afar and the seating is modernistic, with padding to add to the comfort.
It has to be said though, that for a new stadium, the sight lines from the away section were not the best. However, after the Withdean, no one will be complaining.
The horror stories about getting away from the ground were unfounded, at least by rail anyway.
Chris Powell reverted to a 4-5-1 formation witth Lawrie Wilson coming in at the expense of Ricardo Fuller, who dropped to the bench. Wilson and Callum Harriott flanked the central trio of Bradley Pritchard, Andy Hughes and Johnnie Jackson. Yann Kermorgant ploughed a lone furrow up front.
Chances were few and far between as the Addicks adopted a ‘they shall not pass’ policy. The visitors dug in stoically for a point, which after Monday’s results, could be very useful.
The second half saw Charlton encamped in their own half for long periods and the best of the action was reserved for the end.
First substitute, Dale Stephens, fired a long range special just over then in stoppage time Ben Hamer showed his class with a fantastic stop.
The Addicks custodian tipped a Leonardo Ulloa effort on to the top of the bar and over.
Gordon Greer went close from a corner but was denied by Hamer’s left hand post. Chris Powell will be delighted with the point and his team’s defensive resolve. The manager will consider this a job well done.
