Cray Wanderers look to continue their push for the playoffs on Saturday in a crunch game at Brightlingsea Regent in a battle between the teams in sixth and seventh place in the table.
Kick off at North Road is 3pm.
Cray have looked more like their old selves in recent weeks and had a steady February with just one defeat in four games following a poor January.
Certainly against Waltham Abbey last weekend and at Bury Town the previous Saturday the Wands looked to be playing more like the team of earlier in the season.
Grant Basey looked to be back to his best last Saturday with a trademark quality free kick strike and there were good performances all over the pitch.
Jamie Mascoll made a lively contribution from the bench and Ben Hunt looked sharp in front of goal, whilst the defence looked fairly solid against a lively Waltham Abbey attack. There is the likelihood of Leigh Bremner making a return after a three game suspension and Cray can go into the game with confidence.
Cray make only their second ever visit to Brightlingsea who after a fairly slow start to the season burst into form from late October to January losing just once in seventeen league games to move them to the edge of the playoffs.
James Webster’s side are quite resilient as proved in previous meeting with Regent this season as recently as the 16th January. Two goals from Ben Hunt that afternoon looked to have set Cray on the way to a comfortable victory however a good Brightlingsea fight back saw goals from Jake Clowsley and two from Russell Malton turned the game on its head and Regent won 3-2. Of course, the game was marred by the terrible injury to Uche Ibemere and in a remarkable gesture, Brightlingsea will be arranging a collection for Uche in order to aid his recovery.
Their leading scorer this season is Phil Kelly who has notched 15 goals so far this season.
Cray are sixth in the table with 68 points from 36 played with Brightlingea in seventh on 65 points but Cray have a better goal difference. The Wands are level on points with fifth placed Cheshunt but the Hertfordshire side have a slightly better goal difference.
March promises to be a massive month where so much can happen as last season most definitely proved. The month includes two games against second placed Thurrock and there is still so much to play for.
Saturday promises to be a cracking game between two good footballing sides and should be a game to savour.
