Every time it appears that Welling United are overcoming their injury woes another spate hits them.
Loick Pires has joined long term absentees Luis Cumbers and Connor McLaren in what appears likely to be a lengthy time out and Harry Beautyman, Doug Bergqvist, Loui Fazakerley and Jack Obersteller are all unlikely to feature in Saturday’s F.A. Trophy game at Braintree Town.
On top of that, Fraser Franks will be serving a one match ban so Jamie Day has moved into the loan market to bring in De Reece Vanderhyde for his second spell from Leyton Orient, and winger Aristide Bassele from AFC Bournemouth.
Welling won 3-2 at the Amla stadium earlier in the season but will field a much changed side this time around.
Many observers nominated Day as man of the match that night and although he is trying to cut down on his playing time, he may feel the need to select himself on Saturday.
Jake Gallagher and Kurtis Guthrie impressed for an F.A. XI on Monday in a game against the Royal Engineers at Maidstone United’s stadium.
Regular substitutes Sam Corne, Kiernan Hughes-Mason and Josh Okim all played for the full 90 minutes in Welling’s 5-4 London Senior Cup match on Wednesday and although Matt Horne took charge that night, Day observed from the stand and may want to give one of them or Callum Webb some game time before Tuesday’s Skrill Premier match at Grimsby Town.
