After another week of change at Stonebridge Road, Jamie Day’s new- look Ebbsfleet United team will travel to Braintree for the Third Round of the FA Trophy.
A number of players have gone since the Fleet’s last game- an unimpressive 2-1 league defeat at Sutton, earlier in the week influential midfielder Daryl McMahon left for Boreham Wood and on Friday the club confirmed that Stephan Sessegnon has also left for Eastbourne Borough after his loan at Sutton was cancelled. There could have been another departure over the week, but Alex Osborne’s loan move away from Stonebridge Road was put on hold.
Since Jamie Day arrived at the club his side’s results have been inconsistent with Ebbsfleet beating Forest Green Rovers in the last round before being beat at Sutton the next week. His team are still 8th in the Conference South but the league will take a step back this weekend for the FA Trophy tie where they will face tough opponents in Braintree.
The Iron are currently placed 15th in the Conference Premier after just two of their last eight matches in all competitions, they beat Gosport Borough, who sit one place above Ebbsfleet, in the previous round.
The two sides haven’t played each other since April 2013, with Ebbsfleet struggling for survival in the top level of non-league football, on that occasion it was the Essex side who came out on top in a 3-1 win with Liam never- Marum scoring for the fleet; Jamie Day will be hoping for a better result than that of two years ago and they’ll be playing in front of a large visiting contingent, the Fleet Trust, the supporters club of Ebbsfleet will be taking four coaches into Essex as their team looks to progress in the largest non-league knockout competition in the country.
