The Addicks beat Bradford City 1-0 at a wet and windy Northern Commercials Stadium on Saturday, thanks to a Jake Forster-Caskey strike.
Charlton moved up to fourth in the table, level on points with the Bantams but behind them on goals scored, though the Addicks have a game in hand.
Karl Robinson made two changes from the side that drew at Oxford on Tuesday. Ezri Konsa partnered Patrick Bauer in the middle of defence, with Naby Sarr shuffling across to left-back, and Jay Dasilva dropping to the bench.
Billy Clarke replaced Ben Reeves who was also amongst the substitutes.
Clarke reverted to his number ten role, with Ricky Holmes to his right and Tariqe Fosu on the left.
Bradford have only lost 3 of their last 38 home league games, and the wild weather conditions
made Charlton’s task even harder.
But apart from a spell early in the second-half, the Addicks were fairly comfortable.
The Bantams’ best chances came late in the game, but they were foiled by two sensational saves from Ben Amos.
First he stopped Charlie Wykes’ point blank header, then he tipped a goal bound effort from Nat Knight-Percival over the bar. Amos also made a smart stop to keep out Wykes in the first-half.
The decisive goal came after 74 minutes. Holmes took a quick throw on the right. Chris Solly’s cross was met at the far post by Fosu. Fosu shot across goal, and the ball was turned home by Forster-Caskey.
There were plenty of positives for Robinson to take from the game. Sarr slipped seamlessly into the left-back role, and he combined well with Fosu.
Amos made some crucial saves, the team kept a clean sheet and showed resilience, and Forster-Caskey had a fine game in difficult conditions.
Charlton now have a week’s respite before AFC Wimbledon visit The Valley. Robinson will be desperate for his team to keep their momentum going.
