The Invicta Dynamos made it a double winning weekend with a tense 7-6 victory over the Bracknell Hornets on Sunday night.
Having won their opening fixture of the new season 9-7 against the Oxford City Stars on Saturday night, Kevin Parrish’s side went into the game full of hope and confidence.
What they wouldn’t have expected was quite how close and tense the game was going to be against a decent Bracknell side at their own rink.
The game started with the Dynamos once again icing without the suspended Billy and Charlie Phillips, with Grant Baxter added to the roster after missing the Oxford game.
Five minutes into the first period and it was the Dynamos that took the lead with Callum Fowler making the most of a powerplay to fire past former Mos netminder David Wride.
The Dynamos were in control of the game for large parts of the opening period, but lost Steve Osman to a match penalty in the 16th minute due to high sticks.
With a man down, the visitors conceded in the next minute to take the two teams in level at the break.
The second period was as close as the first with the home side going in front just 72 seconds in, but two goals from the evergreen Andy Smith saw the Dynamos restore their lead by the 28th minute.
When Nicky Lewis and Callum Fowler fired the Dynamos 5-2 in front by the end of the period, the Dynamos fans believed their side were on their way to a comfortable two points.
However, the home side had other ideas and a tense final twenty minutes saw the game turned on its’ head.
By the 52nd minute Bracknell had scored the three goals they needed to draw the game level and a minute later they were 6-5 in front as the Dynamos looked to have blown their chances.
Once again though, the game was not over by a long shot and Fowler stepped up to score another in the 55th minute to make it 6-6 and with just 62 seconds left on the clock Juraj Huska scored the all important goal to seal the points.
The double winning weekend sees the Dynamos off to the perfect start and they’re back in action again on Saturday night as they welcome the Streatham Redskins to Gillingham with face off at 5:15pm.
