Bowyer wants a midfield general
Lee Bowyer highlighted the areas of the team he is looking to strengthen in an interview with Valley Pass.

Bowyer explained that he wanted to bring quality, not quantity into the team, citing Lyle Taylor as the perfect example.
Taylor turned down a much more lucrative offer from Sunderland to join his home town club.
Bowyer does not expect Igor Vetokele to stay at the club, and believes Josh Magennis could also leave. If that happens, he will bring another striker in.
Patrick Bauer is another player who has his admirers.
An area where Bowyer believes he is weak, is in central midfield. After Joe Aribo and Jake Forster-Caskey, George Lapslie and Taylor Maloney are the next two in line.
Bowyer does not believe the pair are ready for regular first team‎ action yet, though they will be in the squad going to Portugal this week.
The caretaker boss explained that due to the small size of the squad, Lapslie and Maloney will be involved with the first team at times during the season.
Young Australian keeper, Ashley Maynard-Brewer, is another who will get his opportunity during the course of the campaign.
Bowyer explained that he wanted a strong, physical player in central midfield, but conceded that there were not many about.
He did speak to Shrewsbury’s Abu Ogogo, but the player opted to join Coventry instead.
A player Charlton were linked with a year ago was Scunthorpe’s Stephen Dawson, but he joined Bury.
The Shakers in‎vested heavily last summer, but the gamble did not work out, and they were relegated.
Now 32-years-old, Dawson is obviously not the long term solution. But Bowyer is aiming for automatic promotion this season, and Dawson could be just what he needs in the short term.
