Charlton will be hoping to extend their unbeaten start to the season to twelve games at Bournemouth on Saturday.
The Cherries have won one, drawn one and lost two of their last four home fixtures and are likely to have former Addicks, Simon Francis and Harry Arter, in their starting line-up.
Former Charlton cult hero, Yann Kermorgant, will be missing though. The Frenchman was sent off at Bolton in Bournemouth’s last match.
Understandably, Kermorgant is frustrated at missing the game and had this to say to the Bournemouth Daily Echo:
“For me, it’s a joke. If a player makes a tackle from behind and injures a player on purpose, or loses his head or does something very silly, he will also get a red card and a three-game ban.
“You could see I was looking at the ball. It was an accident and the player was not injured. I didn’t touch him with my foot or studs, I touched him with my hip because I pulled my foot away when I saw it was too late to stop my jump.
“For me, three games is quite a lot. It should have been a one-game ban,” said Kermorgant.
The challenge was reckless, Kermorgant’s foot was very high, and such offences carry a mandatory three match ban. Significantly, the Cherries did not appeal the decision.
Bob Peeters will have Johann Gudmundsson available again. The Icelandic international injured his ankle against Middlesbrough three weeks ago and Peeters was cautious in his assessment of him:
“He is training at this moment but if you have been out for a few weeks then you are not 100 per cent.
“He is one of the guys who we will wait until after Friday’s training to decide if he can be in the squad,” said Peeters.
Gudmundsson’s flair and creativity are a potent threat though, and he is likely to start the game.
Frederic Bulot and Tal Ben Haim were also on international duty. Ben Haim reported back fit and well earlier in the week but Bulot is not due back at Sparrows Lane until Friday morning.
Peeters continued:
“We are still waiting on Frederic Bulot who played on Wednesday with Gabon.
“Tal Ben Haim came back well. We gave him a few days to recuperate but he trained.
“There are some question marks around a few players and whether they will be 100 per cent fit to play on Saturday. We will wait until after Friday’s training and decide then.
“I don’t think Bulot is going to be fit. If you play on Saturday and Wednesday and then have a long flight then I think he will not be 100 per cent.
“However, if he is not injured then he might be in the squad. We will decide after training on Friday.”
Peeters has limited options, so is likely to stick with the 4-5-1 formation he has used recently, with Bulot included on the bench.
The Addicks could look like this:
Henderson; Solly, Ben Haim, Bikey, Wiggins; Gudmundsson, Buyens, Cousins, Jackson, Moussa; Vetokele.
Subs: Pope, Fox, Morrison, Wilson, Bulot, Harriott, Ahearne-Grant.
Referee, James Linington, will make the short journey from the Isle Of Wight to take charge of the game.
Though the Cherries will start as favourites, Peeters will expect his side to take something from the match.
