Saturday saw Borstal U-11 Wagtails make a winning start to the season with a solid win against Rainham Wasps in the Medway Youth League Cup.
Opener Max Bench carried his bat through the Rainham innings for an excellent 17 not out, whilst Harry Henbest was the pick of Borstals bowlers with 2 wickets during his 4 overs costing just 8 runs. Borstal took just over 13 overs to reach their target of 57 with openers Tom Miles and David Round providing stiff opposition for the Rainham bowlers.
Sunday saw mixed fortunes for Borstals Colts teams. Whilst a young U-13 Linnets side narrowly lost out to Lordswood – again in the Medway Youth Cup. Highlights saw Tom Miles score the maximum 25 runs before retiring
Both U-13’s side were wearing their new shirts provided by new sponsors GM Mechanical & Welding Services Limited and John Batchelor.
Meanwhile the U-15’s progressed to the next round of the Cup by beating Meopham with a confident display of batting, bowling and fielding. A solid start to the batting set a challenging score of 88-4. Meopham started well but a fine run out by Adam Holbrooke put Meopham on the back foot and they slowly ran out of overs thanks to a spirited fielding effort by a young Borstal side.
