Bromley made it three wins in a row with a fine display of attacking football at Meadow Park on Tuesday night, securing an impressive win on the road despite a late wobble.
The two sides who finished first and second in Conference South last season tested each other out for the opening minutes of the game, Ben May had an effort saved by Preston Edwards, while Wood were denied chance by superb defending from Paul Rodgers and Rob Swaine.
The home side did get closer when Billy Clifford hit a looping effort from outside the box which came back off the post leaving Ravens keeper Alan Julian wrong footed. Junior Morais was denied a goal when Julian did well to run the powerful striker too wide to get a shot in and Ben Chorley cleared the home forward’s cross from the bye line.
With Wood looking the stronger Ricky Shakes missed a chance from close range after good work from Charlie McDonald and McDonald himself had a header saved by Julian.
Bromley picked up the pace from there and after Moses Emmanuel, and Brad Goldberg went close, The Ravens went 1-0 up on the half hour when a poorly cleared corner was lashed home by May from ten yards.
May and Emmanuel both forced saved from Edwards as Mark Goldberg’s men finished the half on top.
Bromley came out flying for the second half and were two up on 50 minutes when a free kick from the right saw Edwards slow off his line and after Swaine had touched the ball past him Emmanuel charged in to head the ball over the line from close range.
Wood battled stright back though and reduced the defecit on 58 minutes when a poorly cleared set piece was despatched by Scott Doe.
The home side had a strong spell of pressure, but Bromley broke quickly and made it 3-1 just after the hour when Emmanuel played a superb ball to Goldberg who showed the finising ability of two seasons ago as he left Edwards with no chance striking an unstoppable shot high into the net.
Goldberg forced a save from Edwards straight after, before the home side battled back for a late rally.
Morais was floored by Swaine when charging in on goal and the Bromley captain was booked, before Clifford sent the resulting free kick just over the bar.
After Bromley dug in defensively Boreham Wood did pull one back in injury time when Morais hit home a fine volley, but the final whistle blew as the restart was taken and The Ravens held on to the points.
Bromley are now eleventh in the table and travel to Torqauy on Saturday in buoyant mood looking to extend their unbeaten run.
