Rochester based Team Hard racing have today announced that Jamie Bond will be back with them for the 2017 Milltek Sport Volkswagen Racing Cup.
Bond is a VW Cup race winner and also a lap record holder, and once again he will be back behind the wheel of one of the team’s VW Golf’s looking to be a title contender for the upcoming campaign.
This will be a huge year for Jamie as he looks to build on his amazing performance at Brands Hatch at the end of 2016. He had a very strong end to the season and will be looking to continue that in to 2017 from the off. It was a frustrating season last year with only completing less than half the season but the pace shown was incredible given that Jamie had never even been to any of the circuits before.
More importantly for Jamie, this will be only his second season in saloon car racing so he will be looking to really make his mark from the outset. This season we saw just how capable Jamie is behind the wheel and had it not been for a lack of funding, it is arguable that he would have been fighting for overall honours in his debut year.
Speaking about Bond resigning with the team, Tony Gilham, said: “Jamie has shown his outstanding potential with his performances during this season and is a joy to work with both on and off track. No doubt he will be pushing as HARD. as ever to prove his ability as a top level racing driver. He is a perfect fit to the team and he will be looking to challenge for the overall championship honours.
“We have seen just how quick he can be and combined with his ability to be ultra-consistent we have the makings of a champion. He has the commitment and determination, which is a massive part of his success and works closely with the team at all of our corporate events too which is an added bonus for us both.”
Giving his thoughts on another season with Team Hard, and the work he has put in to ensure he is back on the grid, Bond said: “I’ve been working non-stop to put this deal together and cannot thank the team and my sponsors enough for making this possible. It is great to get it confirmed a lot earlier than last year but we will continue to push as hard as ever to make sure that we are there for the whole season and fighting for race wins from the start. We are still in talks with partners for the coming season and hoping to put together a test programme so we can learn the tracks before arriving for the race weekend as everyone else has the advantage at the moment of track knowledge.”
